We just received our appointment at the Ukranian State Department on Adoption and Children's Rights (SDA) on February 23 in Kiev! Our adoption agency recommends that we get there at least a day before to get some rest before the appointment, so we're planning to leave on February 21 and arrive in Kiev on the 22nd. We've chosen a single-trip option which means that we'll be living in Ukraine about a month ... give or take. One thing we've learned in this process is to simply be flexible. Sometimes things go faster than we anticipate, but most often they take longer. We just have to roll with changes as they come and go by their timeline, not ours.
We are so excited that the time is finally here, but now we have to focus on getting ready for the trip: finding the right hotel and airfare, work arrangements, and preparing a house for a child when we don't know if it's a boy or a girl or exactly how old.
We still don't know who our child is or whether it's a boy or a girl, or what city. But we do know our child will be between 2 and 4 years old and that he or she is there somewhere in Ukraine waiting to meet us. We can't wait!
